As Epic’s management team heads west for the annual Game Developers Conference in San Francisco this week, GamePro magazine is predicting that Microsoft will buy the fast-growing game technology firm.
“Microsoft will buy Epic Games for $1 billion this summer,” wrote Travis Moses, assistant editor at GamePro, in the magazine’s new issue.
Epic and Microsoft are practically joined at the hip already. Microsoft’s game publisher division paid Epic millions of dollars to develop the award-winning “Gears of War” in November of 2006 for the Xbox 360 platform. Gears won multiple awards and sold several million copies. The online version of the game remains among the most popular on the Xbox Live network.
The two companies will be exhibiting at the GDC side-by-side.

I guess if you can't beat 'em, buy 'em is still Microsofts rule of thumb, so this could be true. Bummer if it is true, I might have to concede and get a 360 if no more Unreal Engine games are released on PS3.
What doesn't make sense is why they don't have any articles about this on the GamePro website, but what they do have an article about is how Epic are going console centric... surely if Microsoft were to buy them they would be Games for Windows and XBox 360 centric...
That link you posted didn't work btw... _________________ I would like my car to fly and make me breakfast!

yeah i tried that link and it seems to be down now
I wouldn't worry about this D, i think it's just pure specualation on the editors behalf as surely Microsoft will not cough up a billion for a single developer. Although i suspect they would take ownership of there licenced engines and the like which would make the figure more probable.
Still i cant see this happening _________________ If you can't choose, buy them all |
