OK, not really as exciting as it sounds:
CJPC from ps3news.com has loaded a game into memory, jumped into the debug tools, dumped the now decrypted game from memory back out to disk, hacked it to remove all the disk checks, reworked it into a self file so it can then be executed by his PS3 test unit (WILL NOT WORK ON RETAIL PS3) and then put it and all the files from the game disk onto a Hard Drive in the correct folders, hacking all the other files that point to BD content to point to his copied HD content.
Procedure sounds like it takes a long time... well it's taken them nearly a year, and they had a debug PS3 and the SDK...
Don't expect to be running PS3 games off the Hard Drive any time soon. _________________ I would like my car to fly and make me breakfast!

Was just reading about this elsewhere - expect development to steam roll from here! And this is exactly about the time that Sony needed this to come out. _________________

Anything from Ps3news is normally just headline bull to attract hits to their site.
It is on a Debug machine which has nothing to do with a retail machine. Unless it comes from other more reliable sources i wouldnt be getting excited just yet.
The Wii, NDS, PSP, 360 and Ps2 are all hacked and sales of software on all consoles is great.
You would be suprised how many peeps download games and then spread the word on how good or bad a game is. A lot of downloaders will buy the retail game as well if it is good enough. Piracy actually sells consoles. _________________
