The compensation must have been awesome for them to stick with a dead format...
DreamWorks Animation has surprised the industry by saying it will stick with the dead HD DVD format.
The CEO of the company said that despite Toshiba discontinuing production of HD DVD players, it was locked into an exclusive deal to produce movies with the high-def technology.
"We have a partnership with Toshiba and have an obligation to see this through", said DreamWorks chief exec Jeffrey Katzenberg.
Rather more interestingly, Katzenberg appeared to confirm that the company had been paid off to shun Blu-ray:
"As you know, we have been well-compensated for our support. It really is in their court at this point to really declare what the next step will be. We're poised either way to jump into the marketplace when the conditions are right to do so."
DreamWorks' sister studio Paramount, who was thought to be tied into the same deal, recently revealed that they would be releasing films on Blu-ray.

geez that's a bit of a surprise. Still at least something good came out of the death of HD DVD. Yep the fire sales.
JB had there's today and man did i clean up
Ultimate Bourne collection (all 3 Bourne films) - $27
Mission Impossible pack (all 3 MI films) - $20
The Kingdom - $10
Corpse's Bride - $10
Serenity - $10
Children Of Men - $10
Blood Diamond - $10
Dreamgirls - $10 (meant to be a visual showcase)
Goodfellas - $10 (love this film and transfers meant to be awesome
so all up $117 for 13 discs
Add those to HD DVD titles that i already got:
Heroes S1
Transformers
300
King Kong
Shrek The Third
V For Vendetta
Hot Fuzz
Shawn of the Dead
and for a dead format HD DVD hasn't done me wrong and eventually i'll burn the movies onto Blu-Ray
p.s. 360 HD DVD addons are $47

Holy Crap Batman - for $47 I'll grab one and go back to Component - they upscale via Compenent don't they?? Then I can have my VGA port back for my PC.
I wouldn't mind a collection of some of my fave flicks in HD for next to nothing, Mad Max, Top Gun, Transformers, Good Fellas would be nice on the one disk (the DVD copy was a double-sided DVD and was a pain)....

Holy hell, back on topic. Have decided that all my fave flicks will find their way on to BluRay and that is just the way it's going to be. So rather than spend money on HD DVD because it is cheap then spend it again when I have PS3 and those titles are on BluRay, I will just wait until the latter occurs and jump in then..... No point in spending a couple of hundred on a player and some movies that will only be a novelty item then sold off on a garage sale.
If I had a player already I would be straight in their with you Gah grabbing every title I could while the bargains exist!

$47 for the addon still too much??
Remember the addon also plays DVD's and if you have a VGA/hdmi cable it will upscale them too. Takes pressure off the actual 360's disk drive too which is always a bonus LOL.
Still may not be worth it for some.

$47 plus movies would be $200 plus; which is 1/3 towards a Bluray player/PS3 so yeah it's not just the $47. My 360 already upscales as I run VGA so everything is output at 1366x768 by the 360 anyway....
